Event Description
The UVic Orchestra presents Fantasia, featuring an oboe concerto, comic strip projections, new music, and a symphony! Canada’s earliest opera overture for orchestra, Joseph Quesnel’s delightful Colas et Colinette, will open the concert followed by a musical territory acknowledgment—in dialogue with the orchestra—delivered by indigenous artist Lindsay Delaronde. The orchestra will perform druck/durch, by School of Music alumnus Nolan Krell. Inspired by French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, this new composition is a musical essay on the discourse between our inner world and the outer one. The first half of the concert will come to a climax with the breathtaking solo in Richard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto, performed by UVic Concerto Competition winner Anna Betuzzi.
