Event Description
Thursday, Oct 6th IMU & CiTR present Solarists CD Release Party with The Hermit, Windows 78 & The Pokiok Falls @ The RAILWAY CLUB, 579 Dunsmuir Street . Doors 8pm / $10 -:- Info: 604 681 1625SOLARISTS - Beautiful, mournful and absolutely enthralling, Solarists set listeners adrift in intoxicating melodies and dreamy guitar backdrops that are a little rough around the edges, drawing on indie-rock spirit and simplicity. Their upcoming debut "The Channel's Twilight" is a loose meditation on the politics of love, the state and modern disillusionment. The album was recorded at the Hive by Jordan Koop and Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Destroyer, P:ano, Radio Berlin) and is being released by Darling Records (Ashley Park, Saturnhead). Solarists frontman Cameron McLellan is also the bass player and second guitarist for local space-rock outfit Hinterland. http://www.solarists.com
THE HERMIT - Electronic, organic and fully engaging, The Hermit is the creation of electronic explorer Hamish Thomson. Their sound combines technology with traditional instruments on a voyage through new musical landscapes without borders. Unconventional sounds originating from a curious collection of objects -- toaster oven, vintage air organ, distorted effects pedals -- combine with real live drums, adding a texture and richness not typically found in electronic-based music. Epic sounds mesh with sublime harmonic resonances and trance-inducing visuals to produce a unique and vivid sensory experience. http://www.hermitmusic.com
WINDOWS '78 dynamically explore a unique fusion of moody, guitar-driven rock and loop-based ambient electronica, delivering a fresh, trippy sound that will surely appeal to Martians, robots and you! http://www.windows78.com
THE POKIOK FALLS are a six-piece band out of Vancouver, fronted by Heather DeLong. The debut album, "Hope Rides Alone," conjures images of dirt roads and draculas, mill towns and aimless wanderers, exploring tricks the heart and mind can play. With lilting melodies and rich 3-part harmonies, their music hint at finer places you haven't been to before.
