On April 18, 2017, Vancouver-based cornetist, pianist and musicologist will be joining The Victoria Jazz Orchestra at Hermann's Jazz Club for a workshop at 6pm and a concert at 8pm featuring a celebration of 100 years of jazz on record.
The Original Dixieland Jazz Band made the first commercial jazz recording in 1917 with their rendition of "Livery Stable Blues". The Victoria Jazz Orchestra will trace the origins of jazz from New Orleans at the turn of the 20th Century to the present day in this commemorative show. We will hear from Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong through Count Basie and Charles Mingus to Victoria, BC in 2017.
