Event Description

Musaic presents ‘Vocal Connections’, bringing together Synergy, the high energy a cappella male vocal ensemble from the Vancouver Men’s Chorus with Her Sweet Time, Victoria’s own acoustic folk women’s ensemble. Benefit concert also includes a guest appearance by Melaney Black, co-conductor of Musaic.

Synergy, is a 12 voice ensemble of the renowned Vancouver Men's Chorus, formed in 1998 by pianist, composer and conductor Stephen Smith. In the five years since its formation, the group has earned a reputation for great performances of everything from madrigals to Motown, in over a dozen different languages. Synergy has performed at festivals in Chicago, San Jose, and Toronto, in concerts in Kamloops and Vancouver, on local radio and television, at fundraisers and private functions, in churches and hospital wards, and appears on the VMC's latest CD "elements." The group is greatly looking forward to its Victoria debut, and is planning to take Montreal by storm later this year!

Her Sweet Time is comprised of lead vocal Beth Miller on guitar, harp, hand drum with Caroline Shooner on guitar, banjo, harp. They first met on the open mike circuit of the infamous George St., in John's, Newfoundland. A few long dark winter months later, having perfected their blend over many kitchen jam sessions, they took to the road in 1999, traveling from Cape Spear to Port Renfrew in their old van “Lizzie”. The trip (and a few van troubles) inspired their current name: Her Sweet Time. From one big island to another, the pair traded the North Atlantic winter storms for February crocuses, and settled in Victoria

This event is a benefit for Musaic, a Victoria-based choir who publicly sing choral works by or of interest to gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgendered people (GLBT) and allies: promoting musical and social “harmony”.

Tickets ($15/10) for the concert are available at the door or in advance at Blue Star Consignment, Bleeding Rose and from Musaic Choir Members.
