Event Description

Experimental Canadian gothic 4-piece Books and Branches weaves stories of the North with warm musical textures and an idiosyncratic artistry. Fresh from recording the forthcoming full-length Caribou Whispers at the Hive, Colin MacLaine describes his poetic, nuanced, and deeply human music not as songs, but more like postcards you intended to send but you ended up making them into art instead cause you were too lazy to walk down to the drugstore and buy a stamp.

The beige is a Vancouver-based quintet known for richly layered songs and instrumentals "heavy on the ambient atmosphere." Its debut cd 01, independently released in 2006, was called a record of rare beauty that fuses popular and experimental forms into a coherent whole" by Americana UK. The beiges live shows feature broad strokes of improvisation, weaving together off-kilter pop and jazz, narrative and groove, minimalist and maximalist. The new album, El ngel Exterminador, will be released this spring. The beige complements most interiors.
