Event Description

Tomaso Albinoni must be considered one of the true pioneers of the new Venetian school and Vivaldi himself was strongly influenced by Albinoni’s works. Eventually they became rivals, notably in the vibrant Venetian opera scene. The Pacific Baroque Orchestra will accompany Washington McClain in the famous Albinoni Concerto for single oboe, and will explore other spectacular music by Albinoni and Giovanni Legrenzi, the maestro di cappella of St Mark’s, who it is suspected taught both Albinoni and Vivaldi. The Festival also welcomes this year the Canadian soprano Kathleen Brett who has performed to critical acclaim in America and Europe and who will perform the role of Birdie Hubbard in Pacific Opera Victoria’s staging of Blitzstein’s “Regina” in April 2008.
