Event Description
on sale fri, 2/23 @ 10amAs frontman for Pulp, Jarvis Cocker made some of the most sophisticated, cheeky, and catchy pop to come out of Britain in the last 15 years. From the band’s 1982 debut mini-album It ’til its unofficial swan song We Love Life in 2001, the Sheffield act captured the hearts and minds of Britpop lovers at home and abroad. The song “Common People” (later covered by William Shatner!) and the 1995 Mercury Prize-winning record Different Class placed the band in the upper echelons of British pop bands of the ’90s.
Through it all, Jarvis has maintained a reputation as one of the world’s most quotable, enigmatic, and fascinating pop stars. His long-awaited solo album, simply called Jarvis, was released last year and rose to #37 in the U.K. charts. Says Amazon.com in its review of the album, “Cocker is a great writer, and possesses the ability to make the listener laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time… best of all, the quality of his lyrics is often matched by the strength of the tunes. This is a superb album, one that should be listened to for generations to come.”
