As frontman for Pulp, Jarvis Cocker made some of the most sophisticated, cheeky, and catchy pop to come out of Britain in the last 15 years. From the band’s 1982 debut mini-album It ’til its unofficial swan song We Love Life in 2001, the Sheffield act captured the hearts and minds of Britpop lovers at home and abroad. The song “Common People” (later covered by William Shatner!) and the 1995 Mercury Prize-winning record Different Class placed the band in the upper echelons of British pop bands of the ’90s.
