Late show: Chris Velan with guest Jody Glenham Montreal artist, Chris Velan, does not fit the typical singer-songwriter mold. A musician and songwriter his whole life, he studied law and passed the bar only to leave that path to travel to West Africa where he helped make a documentary film about a group of refugee musicians from Sierra Leone. He returned to release his debut solo album in 2003, thus beginning a musical exploration of his own influences that ranged from folk, pop and rock to world music and reggae. Motivated by a range of influences spanning 70s’ singer-songwriters, blues, rock, 80s alternative, West African music and reggae, Velan continues his goal to carve out his own path, directly inspired by the loneliness, searching, exhilaration and exhaustion of a nomadic mus... more...
