Don't miss this exciting night of innovative jazz with strings!! Hypatia is a highly energized, predominately female, 13 piece jazz orchestra with strings led by trumpeter, Lorae Farrell, exploring the creative music of jazz innovators such as McCoy Tyner, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland, Chucho Valdes, John Coltrane plus exciting new compositions written specifically for this ensemble by Multi Juno Award Winner, Hugh Fraser. Hypatia recently received two grants from the Recording Industries' Music Performance Fund in New York, administered by Local 247 of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada to present concerts in their home town of Victoria, BC and is excited about performing in Vancouver for the first time as guest artists at the Kiwanis Jazz Festival. ... more...
