Born in Germany, Matthias Lupri grew up in Kansas and Alberta and was introduced to jazz vibes after hearing a Gary Burton album, finding a new musical expression. "Hearing Gary Burton totally changed my whole approach to music," he says. Matthias eventually enrolled at Berklee College of Music to study with Burton. Since graduating, Lupri's jazz groups have appeared at clubs and festivals throughout North America and Europe, including JazzFest International 2002 in Victoria. The brilliant vibraphonist has released three acclaimed CDs including the excellent Same Time Twice (Summit) with Mark Turner and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
