Critics immediately likened the sounds on the band’s debut Bring ’Em In to other garage-y guitar-rock acts like the Strokes and the Libertines. With the 2004 release of Hurricane Bar, Mando Diao continued refining its combination of ’60s pop songwriting standards mixed with the sounds of today, not to mention a live show that threw fans into paroxysms of ecstasy. Ode to Ochrasy, the group’s latest, features rave-ups like “TV & Me” and “Long Before Rock ’n’ Roll” as well as adventurous tracks like the spaghetti-Western-influenced “Good Morning Herr Horst”.
