About

MaryLou Wakefield

MaryLou Wakefield is a contemporary abstract artist who works in several media including painting in acrylic and ink, printmaking and hand lettering. Her work draws on inspiration from wild landscapes and seascapes, architectural forms, and design. MaryLou’s love of abstract expressionism, bold marks ,and rich colour combine with the intrigue of expressing something intangible.

MaryLou grew up in North Vancouver in the 1960s surrounded by wild landscapes and a vibrant art and music culture. She was a professional writer/editor for more than 30 years dedicated to the ‘show don’t tell’ style of writing. The language of her abstract paintings follow the same tradition. MaryLou is a member of the Victoria Print Society and the Mentorship Program at arc.hive Artist Run Centre in Victoria, B.C. and a board member of the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA).

MaryLou lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and works from a small garden studio. Her paintings and prints have been exhibited in Victoria, B.C. and in New York. Her work is held in collections around the world.

She is happy to discuss collaboration opportunities as well as commissions. Contact her at mlwakefieldart.com for more information.
