The Constantines

The Constantines are the children of Fugazi, stepbrothers to Make-Up and Trail of Dead, the grand-kids of Springsteen and Strummer. They call what they do soul music, not because of what it sounds like, but where it hits you. They haven't just inherited the styles of their ancestors, but the wisdom as well. Their Fugazi fandom, for instance, focuses on the crucial subtleties that band's army of overly earnest imitators often overlook: the sly wit, the hide-and-seek duelling guitar intricacies and the fact that Ian MacKaye and Guy Piciotto are the closest thing indie-rock has to its own Sam and Dave.
