About

Maceo Parker

The world’s funkiest sax-man, the legendary Maceo Parker, spent two decades as the right-hand man of James Brown, blowing righteous saxophone in an electrifying way that could shift from melodic to percussive with awesome effect. Long associated with the inimitable funk gods George Clinton and Bootsy Collins and various incarnations of Parliament-Funkadelic, Parker eventually forged his own solo career. His third CD, 1992’s Life on Planet Groove, was a take-no-prisoners live album that set a new standard for soulful funk. His new CD Roots & Grooves (Headsup International) is no different. Recent collaborations with Prince, Ani Difranco, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dave Matthews have shown that Parker is still relevant – and just as awesome as ever. There will only ever be one Godfather of Soul, but even James Brown would agree that it’s now the hard-blowing Parker who is the hardest-working and most exciting man in show business!
