Not many are left from the alt-rock explosion of the early 90s. Canadian survivors are even more rare. But Sloan has proved to be the exception to the rule. Since their debut Smeared and the hit single “Underwhelmed” in 1993, the Halifax quartet have led the pack when it comes to great rock and pop songs that flirt with the mainstream while remaining devoutly off-kilter enough to attract the indie kids. Through eight studio albums of increasing craftsmanship, dozens of tunes of increasing maturity and skill, and hundreds of live performances highlighting the band’s raw energy, psychic musicianship, and fun-loving side, Sloan has become one of the country’s most valued institutions. Some of the songs: “Coax Me”, “The Good in Everyone”, “Money City Maniacs”, “If It Feels Good Do It”, “The Rest of My Life”.
Now, with the release of their new album Never Hear the End of It, Sloan is about to embark on a new chapter. Featuring the distinct songwriting talents of Patrick Pentland, Chris Murphy, Jay Ferguson, and Andrew Scott, Never Hear the End of It once again demonstrates why Sloan has not only survived but thrived, to become better than ever.
