AU4 - Vancouver-based electronic ensemble AU4 (pronounced: oh-four) write music that explores and celebrates the endless forces that shape and bind us in an uplifting, ethereal trip through the rhythms of nature and the nature of dreams, mixing blissed-out ambience with melodic, fairytale songs. Drawing from trip-hop, ambient and dreampop styles, AU4 features the breathy, haunting vocals of Ben Wylie, who also scripted the band's fantastical stories of love and life. http://www.au4-audio.com

SINEWAVE - Vancouver's Mark Wiebe is the mastermind behind the weird space lounge introduced on Sinewave's 2001's Interplanetary Ridicule. The Montreal Mirror described Wiebe's previous work on the Sinewave/db split CD as possessing an eeriness marked by a gradual, expansive kind of creep-out. Add in some melodic songwriting and that description holds true for his first release on Winnipeg label Vinyl Republik, Unity Gain. PHONTAINE blends funky breaks and acoustic instruments with tasty female vocals in a warm, smooth electronic sound that is nostalgic, fresh and downtempo. Born in Brighton, England and now hailing from Western Canada, Phontaine takes an unconventional approach to creating music, putting tones and timbres before notes and arrangement. Phontaine songs have been released on the compilations 'Blue Light One' (Upstairs Recordings/Nettwerk) and 'Global Groove' (Sugo Music) alongside bands like Thievery Corporation, and can also be heard on film (Sacred Planet IMAX, White Balance), TV (Tru Calling, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), and video games (Street Racing Syndicate). http://www.phontaine.net
