Event Description

This Evensong is with Broke and Blue! By donation, 4-5pm, please join us and wind down your week in the best way possible! 🎹🪈🥁🎻
Broke and Blue came together when pianist Kathryn Le Gros and flutist Diane Berry first discovered their mutual love of the music of French jazz pianist Claude Bolling (1930-2020). With two suites for flute and jazz piano, as well as several other works, there is a rich choice of wonderful music available to them. Bolling’s fusion of classical and jazz elements in his work is a wonderful vehicle for these two classically trained, versatile musicians.
They will be joined by bassist Ryan Tandy and drummer Gregory Law, as they frequently are, to realize the full jazz sound. Their repertoire now includes music by Uwe Korn, Arthur Frackenpohl, Ian Clarke, Moe Koffman, Dave Brubeck, and some well-known jazz standards.
Evolving out of two ancient services of prayer as the sun is setting—vespers and compline—the service of Evensong is an opportunity to put the events of the past day into perspective, to ground one’s body, mind and spirit in preparation for the restorative night of sleep, when in our dreaming, our subconscious will continue the creative work of making sense of our experiences.
