THE SQUARE ROOT OF EVIL
the Square Root of Evil (aka Jen) has been involved in
music in one sense or another since the age of 5.
Always hearing little tunes in her head almost drove
her crazy until one day she figured out how to make
them on a computer. Besides making music and editing
videos/short films and television programs, she runs 2
internet radio stations, promotes shows in Vancouver
and has been an active member of the online electronic
music community since 1996. Her music has elements of
drum n bass, breakcore, techno and glitch, with bleeps
and bloops from old video games thrown into the mix,
usually in the form of a silly melody or 3. She leans
towards frantic & somewhat complex rhythms made with
crunchy low-fi sounds, and tries to make people smile
while they dance.
CELLOFEIGN
Combing her love for the cello and inspired by minimal techno,
Cellofeign (aka Sara Gold) creates textural mayhem full of clicks, pops and
rich undertones with a myriad of f/x boxes and looping devices.
PLEASURE FREQUENCY
Pleasure Frequency has been performing night clubs and parties in
Vancouver for the last five years both as a solo act and collaboratively
with Tim Gerwing, Freaknob (Gimpo) and Rich Hamakawa (Max Power) and more
recently in the techno duo "Mile 36". His solo material usually hovers
around 96 bpm and hangs in the downtempo arena. This show the tempo is
moving up a little and is a cross between cheesy Tangerine Dream
soundtracks and bleepy breaks. Or something like that.
BRIE CHAUNCEY
After a brief sojourn to Europe, Brie Chauncey returns to her roots in
Vancouver and most recently the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.
"Within this urban landscape surfaces are constantly changing, in
perpetual
stages of erosion and re-creation. Human interaction with natural
phenomena creates, over various blocks of time, new and different
records -
new phenomena wherein natural occurrence and human interference become
indistinguishable and interchangeable."
