Event Description
Listen to the Music! a Benefit Concert for the Power of HopeOur winter concert will feature upbeat songs highlighting the diverse spirit of the Gettin’ Higher Choir. The Choir’s wide-ranging, inspirational repertoire includes songs with roots in England, Finland, Lebanon, Cameroon and South Africa, as well as Canada and the US.
Our guest artist this season is the fabulous Pat Wictor (www.patwictor.com), a renowned global roots folk artist based in New York, who finds inspiration in the intersection of gospel and the blues. Pat - along with another recent GHC guest artist, Greg Greenway - is a founding member of the trio Brother Sun, and believes passionately in the power of music to unite us all.
The Gettin’ Higher Choir is proud to support the Power of Hope, an organization dedicated to the emotional well-being of young people in our community. Through experiential camps that leverage arts-based activities to foster inclusion and community, the Power of Hope encourages at-risk youth to express their authentic selves and realize their potential.
The Gettin’ Higher Choir is an enthusiastic and exuberant 160+ member community choir that embodies the idea that singing is our birthright and that all voices can sing beautifully in harmony.
Founded in 1996 by Siobhan Robinsong, the choir is now led by Cathy Baker and Dick Jackson and continues to build community in song.
Described as an “energetic phenomenon”, the Choir aims to uplift and inspire! The GHC winter concert is sure to set 2019 off to a powerful and optimistic start.
