Event Description
Internationally renowned singer-songwriter Greg Greenway, will appear as special guest with the Gettin’ Higher Choir in two Benefit Concerts for The Power of Hope to be held Feb. 2 and 3, 2018.Greenway is perhaps best known as one third of one of the most successful Folk trios in North America, Brother Sun, with Joe Jencks and Pat Wictor. Musically, his guitar, piano, and ukulele reflect inspiration from all over the map – gospel, rock, blues, jazz, and world music. But he comments that his center is in the singer/songwriter tradition that traces its roots all the way back to the social awareness of Woody Guthrie.
Greenway is originally from Richmond, Virginia, but moved to Boston for its rich folk-music tradition and continues to make Massachusetts his home, even while touring North America and the world with his music.
In the concerts, the choir will perform a variety of joyful and soul-nourishing songs, from the works of Canadian and American singer-songwriters to contemporary English folk music to the driving rhythms of Pentatonix. Greenway will present a solo set of his own songs, and be joined by the choir on a few more, including his powerful anthem “In the Name of Love”.
