Performer info:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
THE TAILOR (www.thetailor.info)

The Tailor sails a sea of future rhythm and whisper blues. His ship is made from trees and spice and dreams of other places, collected. His rudder is a broken beatbox and a strange banjo and he is not afraid to use it. A midnight liaison , a pot simmering and boiling over, sensual. intimate. noisy. in between the harmonies he’s searching for a dirty kind of space. Made of radio echoes and lightning storms. Thunder in the distance.

His legendary Live performances have been delighting, confounding and seducing audiences across the West Coast of north america for more years than he would care to admit. Highlights include residency at Shambhalah Living Room Stage for ten years and an opening slot for a Beats Antique tour. Currently he runs the Rattle performance space in East Vancouver, and is a founder of the Sea to Seed tour of Salish Sea.

The music has been featured in the short film Bury him in the Desert, a cooking show the Perennial plate, a crazy swedish fishing documentary, and a number of racy love scenes, of course.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
USCHI TALA (www.uschitala.com)

A self taught multi instrumentalist and poet, Uschi Tala draws inspiration from the Earth, and the light found within darkness.

Wielding a loop pedal, beat machine and various instruments, she creates ambient soundscapes that dance along hauntingly serene vocals and rhythmic rhymes. Uschi's music has been described as tragically beautiful, distinctively unique and pure magic. Her lyrics embody an ocean of healing and encourage others to sea the radiance in themselves as well as the bigger picture. She will ground your spirit, and raise your heart into etherial worlds of the in between.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
SCOTT DUNBAR (http://scottydunbar.com/)

Scott Dunbar is in league with a ferocious musical force. With guitar, accordion, suitcase kick-drum, and an absolutely evil rusty piece of chain shackled around his leg, he has earned a reputation worldwide as an incomparable genre-bending street and stage performer, as well as a prolific, sensitive and outspoken songwriter with an untamable revolutionary spirit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
MUSSELL AND THE FLEX (www.mussellandtheflex.weebly.com)

We are Mussell and the Flex, a radical, energetic, classic rock-disco-pop, kick-ass cover band based in Victoria, BC. We wanna give you a rip-roaring good time that'll pop your socks off.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
VIC HORVATH (www.vichorvath.com)

Vic Horvath is a queer singer-songwriter who hails from Calgary and has been performing as a musician in Victoria for four years. Inspired by Rae Spoon, Matt Anderson and Timber Timber, their sound has been described as a combination of poetic blues-folk and prairie infused alt-country.

KOKSILAH MUSIC FESTIVAL (www.koksilahfestival.com)

The Koksilah Music Festival is organized in recognition and celebration of the sovereignty and resiliency of Indigenous Nations throughout BC. While 2017 marks the Canada’s 150th year, it also marks more than 500 years of Indigenous resistance to colonial exploitation and assimilation in this region. Our intention is to highlight the perspectives of Indigenous musicians, artists, activists and knowledge keepers. We are partnered with Quw’utsun elders and traditional leaders to ensure that this gathering reflects proper protocols and is accessible to the local Indigenous community.

XWAAQW'UM

Xwaaqw’um (prounounced “Who-auck-wum”) sits on the west shore of Saltspring Island. It translates to “female merganser duck place” in the Hul’q’um’i’num language, and is also known as Burgoyne Bay. Since spring of 2015, Quw’utsun (Cowichan) elders, knowledge keepers, and organizers have hosted a series of cultural gatherings at Xwaaq’wum, aiming to revitalize Quw’utsun cultural use and occupancy of their traditional territory. They provide summer camps where Indigenous youth can reconnect with the land, sea, and cultural practices, including activities such as cedar weaving, drum hide preparation, hunting and fishing techniques, clam garden restoration, intertidal learning and plant medicine walks. They also organize cross-cultural activities to foster understanding between Indigenous and Settler cultures. Events have ranged from canoe trips and storytelling sessions to camas planting and environmental restoration projects. Read more here.

“The project is about continuing and enhancing indigenous ways of being on the land and sea and with each other… The core goal is to have everything we do feed back into providing opportunities to indigenous youth and to re-engage with culture and ways of life that have been forcibly removed from indigenous communities and people based on racist colonial government and church policies over the majority of the existence of so-called Canada.”
—Joe Ackerman (T’awaxwultun)

ACCESSIBILITY

Bus tickets are available by request.
This event is 19+.
No one turned away for lack of funds.

There is a 4" lip at the entrance to the yard. There will be a wooden plank on-hand to assist with wheelchair entrance if needed. The yard is mostly gravel, with a wooden floor taking up about 1/4 of the space. This makes it difficult for wheelchairs to be mobile in the yard, except for the wooden portion which is beside the entrance. There will be multiple port-a-potties on-site, but these will not be wheelchair accessible.
