Event Description
The Newcombe Singers Choir proudly presents their Spring concert under the direction of our conductor, Mr. Peter Dent, pianist, composer, choral arranger and Choir Director. Robert Dukarm, Newcombe Singers' accompanist, is versatile on piano and organ, and later joins the choir for the jazz numbers. Peter Dent is steeped in both the music of the earlier centuries and jazz, the music of our centuries. In the first half, Schicksalslied is designed to uplift while March of the Toreadors is sure to set your toes tapping. Three shorter selections by Purcell and Offenbach will leave you with a delightful perspective on choral music and romance in the 17th and 19th Centuries.
The second half opens with several short, somewhat humorous or rollicking songs of Great Britain that span 3 centuries. Then it's time to bring in our Assistant Conductor, Kristina Stevens , to place our accompanist, Robert Dukarm in the choir, and to welcome three of our island's jazz aficionados, bass player, Alex Olson, drummer. Kelby MacNayr and arranger and master of the ivories, Peter Dent. The choir will stretch our jazz skills in an effort to match this trio. We sing three 20th Century selections, two of them arranged by Peter.
There's often a door prize and always a comfortable seat so do join us on this Sunday afternoon. And do visit our website to decide if it would be fun to join us when we reconvene on the evening of Tuesday, September 6. No audition is required or requested.
