Event Description
Alma de España and the Flamenco de la Isla Society are pleased to present virtuoso flamenco guitarist Gareth Owen in concert on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Recently home from an extended study in Spain, one of several over the years, Gareth Owen's style has undergone a long apprenticeship in the centuries' old traditions of Andalucia. He has passion, yes, but a passion inflected with discipline, and everyday intensities and sorrows. Gareth is joined by the cantaora Coral de los Reyes from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, heartland of all flamenco cante (song). He is also joined by percussionist Davide Sampaolo of Rome, who will play cajon. This is a rare show, and the recording session for Gareth's third CD. Don't miss it.Gareth's father, Harry, was a celebrated flamenco guitarist, who sadly, unexpectedly passed away in 2010. His mother, Veronica, is director of Alma de España, a local flamenco school, which has operated for over twenty years. Gareth cut his teeth on flamenco, and has studied at depth in Andalucia. He is heir to the family trade.
