Forcast was always intended to be a traditional reggae band, but it never seemed to work out that way. The core of the band was formed in junior high when a mutual love for music brought its founding members together. No one could never seem to shed their personal influences from other genres (most notably rock, soul, reggae, pop) when playing together and because of that they slowly developed the sound you hear now.
This debut album (entirely mixed recorded and produced by the band) has gone through many rough arrangements and tracklistings over the years, but emerged as a piece of work that lives up to the bands standards. Setting Sail is part island rock, part laid back reggae, part old soul and part catchy pop all tied together by frontman Kai's refined songwriting. oh and part beer
Blackwood Kings
Now three years into their evolution, Blackwood Kings has proven to be one of the more unique bands to pop up in the Victoria, BC scene. In essence they are a punk band, but while contemporaries may lean towards buzz-saw-distorted guitars and shouted vocals, Blackwood Kings favour the reverb-laden upstrokes of ska and dub, producing a politically and emotionally charged brand of reggae fusion that is uniquely their own. And while the foundation of Blackwood Kings sound is comprised of the aforementioned Jamaican genres, no musical idea is off limits, with songs frequently travelling into disparate realms such as math rock, Latin, and Jungle/Drum n' Bass.
