Event Description
“his rustic and emotional set ran the gamut of the human condition, but miraculously, Andersen still came out on the other end with a smile on his face.” - exclaim.caA powerhouse performer with a giant soul-filled voice and commanding stage presence, New Brunswick’s Matt Andersen has built a formidable following the old fashioned way – touring worldwide and letting the converted audiences and Andersen devotees spread his reputation as a must-see performer through word of mouth.
Matt’s narrative-driven writing cuts through the soul, blending blues, roots and folk, encompassed in total honesty. His soulful voice takes listeners on a ride with his diverse musical styles, astonishing guitar work and over-the-top showmanship. Matt's intimate, high-energy performances have captivated audiences across the world, from Canada, to the US, to Australia and the UK, from small clubs to festivals. His reputation as a bluesman won him the 2013 Euro Blues Award for Best Solo/Acoustic Act, three Maple Blues Awards in 2012, and one award in 2013. He also won the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
Matt’s 2014 album Weightless, produced by Steve Berlin, was an instant classic. It’s hard to imagine any fan of Matt Andersen—old or new—leaving his show unsatisfied. Matt Andersen is a very real, rare, raw talent and career artist – vital to our musical landscape. He is currently finishing his yet untitled latest album and setting out on tour with his band in January, 2016. The VJS is thrilled to have him back in Victoria with his band in February, touring his freshly recorded album.
“Some artists must be experienced live in order to get a true appreciation of their talent. Matt Andersen is one of those artists.” – torontoJazz.com, Josh Grossman
