Event Description
Our favourite Canadian psychobilly band THE MATADORS on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21 AT THE ASTORIA!w/ Butch Haller and His Chesterfield Ramblers , Devil In the Wood Shack & more!
Formed in 1995 in St Thomas, Ontario, THE MATADORS were originally a cover band, playing mostly classic country and 1950s rockabilly songs, being booked mostly for pig roasts, bush parties, weddings and pretty much any bullshit show they could find. But they became so adept at their craft that soon they were killing audiences everywhere they went. The Matadors were the kind of band that would come through town and immediatly bar sales were up as well as DUIs, fights, arrests for public indecency and the teenage pregnany rate. It was this time that Hooch was approached by a man acting as representiitive for The Lucifarian Brotherhood. The LBOB had heard of The Matadors' ability to whip an audience into a frenzy and felt The Matadors were a perfect vehicle for Lucifarian Gospel music. The deal was simple: sell your soul to the devil in exchange for super human control over any audience while playing hymns in praise of Satan etc...etc...etc. Hooch is now in regular contact with lucifer himself. He's has been known to fall into a Lucifarian meditational trance called "The Strunk" in which Hooch speaks in tongues. These sessions or "strunkings" are recorded and later transcibed into hymns. The rest is history. "The Matadors" stand in the pantheon of Canadian punk rock as an icon, and as an institution of incredible creativity, overall skill and stage craft.
The quality of this act is inarguably unparalled. No one in their genre can hold a candle to these pioneers. So much unbridled greatness spanning 22 years, 6 records of complete awesome, no dustters and to boot: bar none best fucking live show you're going to see this year.
Not to mention legendary singer/songer writer Butch Haller and His Chesterfield Ramblers - This ninety-something year old is STILL killing it and has since uncoverd "new" songs that are now on his live set list as well as on a 4 song EP ONLY AVAILABLE AT THESE SHOWS!
For only 12 bucks? You should have to give someone a hand job AND pay 12 bucks. Tell you what: give yourself one AT the show. Problem solved. EVERYbody comes and has a good time.
Come out and shake your shit in praise of The Devil. You probably need to.
