Event Description
Its the end of the semester, and it's time to let loose one more time before hitting the books all December. On Saturday November 30, get down to Felicita's to party for a great cause! In September of 2014, our group of students from UVic's Applied Theatre faculty will be heading to the province of Tamil Nadu in Southeastern India to help establish an intergenerational theatre group between the Tamaraikulam Elders Village (TEV), and a nearby elementary school sponsored by the ISHA foundation. Our goal is to help facilitate dialogue and connections between displaced elders and the younger generation of Indian citizens. In doing so, we hope that we can foster positive change in the role the elders have in their community!
In order to move our eager little selves around the region though, we need transportation. HelpAgeIndia, the charity that supports TEV, has generously agreed to take care of us, but we need to help them repair an old van that will be our noble steed whilst in India. We've almost reached our fundraising goal- and we want to celebrate! With you! And all of your friends!
So get down to Felicita's on November 30, so you can get down with us! And enjoy the talents of:
Horsepowar:
Deceivingly innocent and disgustingly witty female Vancouver-based rap artist, Horsepowar, delivers ambitious, low brow lyrics, earning her plenty of quick and lasting attention. With a background of spoken word in Vancouver's slam poetry scene, Horsepowar hadn't applied her lyrics to music until she teamed with Trip Hop producer and fellow Vancouverite, Fascist.
The duo now creates unique and wacky compositions, bringing the ultimate rude sound. Her self-titled album is sure to offend some, but they'll catch themselves bobbing their heads in the midst.
The Party on High Street:
Founded in Nelson, B.C. four years ago, The Party on High Street is a trippy musical navigation through rockin’ blues grooves, jazzy feel-good improvisations and mid-song funk downs. They are continually conjuring up original psychedelic FUN-rock and refreshing “anything goes” music to treat the soul.
And more to come!
