Event Description
In his conducting debut with the Victoria Choral Society, Music director Brian Wismath leads the choir, soloists, and orchestra in an exciting performance of diverse choral masterworks.Arguably Haydn’s greatest single composition, the Lord Nelson Mass is a fiery and dramatic setting of the traditional Latin form, featuring blazing trumpets, soaring solo lines, and a triumphant finale.
Swedish-American composer Steve Dobrogosz merges classical and jazz idioms to create “melodic masterpieces with a harmonic sophistication seldom found in music today” (Gothenburg Post). The Victoria Choral Society is proud to present the Canadian premiere of his Te Deum as well as excerpts from his Mass.
Dona Nobis Pacem, a prayer for peace in the world by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, and orchestral works by Ernest Bloch round out this inspiring evening.
