Event Description
Touring New Yorker Daryl Shawn joins two recent Vancouver transplants, Daniel Moir from Edmonton and Jason Lowe from Jean Juc, Australia, for a night of far-reaching acoustic music at Cafe Deux Soleils on Sunday, September 30.An alumnus of Boston's esteemed Berklee College of Music who went on to develop his craft during five years in Oaxaca, Mexico, Daryl Shawn combines his taste for unusual chords with the guitar-thumping techniques of flamenco and rhythms culled from African music to create an eclectic mix fueled by a healthy appetite for rocking out (and sometimes, blissing out). Shawn complements his impressive guitar skills with unabashedly picturesque lyrics - think a mix of Rodrigo y Gabriela's chops and the wounded soul of Paul Westerberg. He visits Vancouver as part of his thirteenth solo tour taken almost entirely by train.
Daniel Moir has created a unique blend of folk music that shows wisdom beyond his mere 20 years. His debut EP, "The Country and the Sea", was heavily licensed and charted on college radio across Canada. He has toured the country several times and performed at various festivals, including NXNE and a crowd of 15,000 at the Edmonton Folk Festival. "Gorgeous folk pop infused with wistful vocals, female harmonies, waves of synths, and bouncy banjos," says Sandra Sperounes of the Edmonton Journal.
Since arriving in Canada from Jan Juc, Australia at the beginning of the summer of 2012, Jason Lowe has played at a wealth of local venues, appeared in the We Love Vancouver Festival, booked a tour of greater BC and appeared on four radio shows. Like his primary influences Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, his songs talk of love, loss, adventure and the natural world.
