Event Description

Canada's legendary Downchild Blues Band are celebrating their 35th Anniversary Tour with a not to be missed performance at the The McPherson Playhouse with very special guest David Gogo on Sunday, October 9th at 8:00 PM.

With such memorable hits as "Flip, Flop and Fly", "I Have Everything I Need (Almost)", "Trying to Keep Her 88's Straight" and "Shotgun Blues", the Downchild Blues Band have successfully kept the dance floor full while entertaining fans around the world. The band is led by founding member Donnie "Mr. Downchild" Walsh, who started the band in 1969 at the now infamous Toronto watering hole, Grossman's Tavern, with his since passed brother, Richard "Hock" Walsh. It was at Grossman's Tavern that movie star Dan Ackroyd first saw Donnie and Hock perform. Clearly they made a major impression, as the two brothers served as inspiration for Ackroyd and John Belushi's hit film the "Blues Brothers." Two Downchild songs "I Have Everything I Need (Almost) and "Shotgun Blues" were featured on the first "Blues Brothers" album, in 1978 entitled Briefcase Full of Blues.

To commemorate their 35th Anniversary, the Downchild Blues Band have recorded a brand new Cd Come On In that features all new material with special guest appearances by, James Cotton, Jeff Healey, Gene Taylor (Fabulous Thunderbirds), David Gogo and Tom Lavin (Powder Blues Band).

Nanaimo's David Gogo will kick off this fabulous double bill with his band, as a Cd Release Party to launch his brand new Cd Vibe

His seventh album, Vibe, is an all-original affair with a unique blend of songs written with the likes of Tom Wilson (Junkhouse/Blackie & The Rodeo Kings), Craig Northey (The Odds/Colin James) and John Capek, who has penned hits such as "Rhythm of My Heart" for Rod Stewart. Vibe not only showcases Gogo's guitar prowess but demonstrates his powerful vocal strengths on songs like "I'll Do Anything" and "300 Pound Shoes."

Recorded at Island Pacific Studios in Nanaimo, Vibe is co-produced by David and his longtime engineer, Rick Salt. Renowned guitarist, Jeff Healey makes a special guest appearance with a blistering guitar solo on "She's All Right". Friend and co-writer Tom Wilson also lends his talent with backing vocals on the first single "Love In The City", a track that is being added to regular rotation at rock radio stations across the country.

The Cd is officially set for release nationally on October 12 by Cordova Bay Records with distribution handled by Maple Nation Wide/Universal.

As a special treat, fans attending the McPherson Playhouse performance will have the exclusive opportunity to pick up an advance copy of Vibe before it hits the stores anywhere in Canada. In addition David will be on hand to meets fans and personally autograph each Cd sold that evening.

If you missed David Gogo's sizzling performances this summer supporting the likes of George Thorogood, The Tragically Hip and Jimmie Vaughan, this is your chance to catch the man in action in this celebration with the Downchild Blues Band, that's sure to be one of the shows of the year !
