Event Description
This musical evening of waltzes, marches, and intermezzos, is graced by tenor David Prestley. Programme highlights include music by Albert Ketelbey, Eric Coates and Haydn Wood as well as the tango "Jealousy", Edward German's "Merrie England", and selections from Vivian Ellis' "Bless the Bride" featuring "This is my Lovely Day!"Our soirée will include an 80th birthday dedication to Ernest Tomlinson.
David Prestley, tenor:
David Prestley holds a Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia where he majored in German and Italian. He attended the Banff Centre where he sang the role of Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni. The Nanaimo native has also appeared as a soloist in Germany for Bremen Radio broadcasts of Mozart's Requiem and Thamos in Egypt. As a guest artist with the Bellevue Philharmonic he sang Mozart's Coronation Mass and the role of Gomatz the rarely performed Opera Zaide.
David's oratorio repertoire includes performances of Haydn's Creation, Handel's Messiah and Bach's Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio. His operatic credits include the roles of Tamino, in The Magic Flute, the Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore and as Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville with Vancouver Opera's Touring Ensemble. Vancouver Opera Mainstage credits include roles in productions of The Architect, Le nozze di Figaro and Susannah. He performed Tamino in Mozart's The Magic Flute with the Symphony of the Kootenays and Jupiter in Pacific Baroque Opera's concert presentation of Handel's English opera Semele.
David has presented concerts in British Columbia's Kootenay and Okanagan regions with Newfoundland soprano Arlene Simmonds in their classical vocal cabaret East Meets West in Song. The Duo team also toured the Southern Gulf Islands presenting "Opera a la carte" and a "Broadway Buffet" on Saturna, Mayne, Galiano and Pender Islands.
Mr. Prestley studied voice with William Eddy in Tacoma and Luigi Wood in Vancouver; he has also worked with Graham Johnson in England and Corradina Caporello at the Juilliard School of Music.
