Event Description

TONYE AGANABA, JEFF YOUNGER/DAVID MARION/RAY GARROWAY & special guests
TONYE AGANABA is a dynamic and sultry singer-songwriter born in London, England, but raised in Canada. Tonye's voice flourished under the tutelage of late vocal coach Keith Allan Hall, who is most famed for singing with such notable acts as Sammy Davis Jr and Mahalia Jackson. She reaches out to her audiences, her vivacious and bold personality holding their attention until she is through. But most importantly she strives for change, in herself and others through her growing arts organization The Living Society.

RAY GARRAWAY is currently playing for K-OS, Blind God and Namedropper. He first became interested in drums when he was 4, and was quoted by his dad as saying "I want to beat the dums." Ray joined friend Russ Klyne, to form the band Salvador Dream. After a bidding war, Salvador Dream was signed to Warner and produced 2 records and three videos. Salvador Dream toured almost non-stop for 3 years. Although Salvador Dream ended, it was just the beginning for them, as they experimented more with their jazz roots and later become known as Namedropper. Russ began collaborating and co-writing with K-OS, and soon after Toby and Ray were called on to join, and form a solid touring band.

DAVID MARION began his musical career at the age of 6 by playing a variety of musical instruments. He studied with VICTOR WOOTEN from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, STEVE BAILEY and ADAM NITTI at the Bass/Nature Camp in Nashville, TN. Raised as a Christian and inspired by artists like Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin, he gained more experience by playing with Gospel bands (New Gospel Family, Jo Ann Pickens, Gospel Act, Maggie Blanchard, Exo...). Since then, he has performed world-wide (Europe, Australia, Africa, Pacific, Canada, The Caribbean) with various television/radio appearances (Hit Machine, Top of the Pops, Urban Rush, 20h10 pétante, CBC, Fréquence Jazz, Canada AM...) for different genres of music (Rock, Pop, Soul, Folk-Rock, Gospel, World, Smooth Jazz...). David's mentors and influences include Larry Graham, Marcus Miller, Prince and Miles Davis.

Winnipeg born, Vancouver based guitarist/composer JEFF YOUNGER is one of the busiest, most interesting and original musicians in Canada. Prone to rampantly tasty guitaristic diversity, deadly serious compositional tendencies, and lawless sprees of sonic expressionism, he's been called "the mad scientist of the electric guitar" and "Vancouver's own Frank Zappa". A leading figure in Vancouver's creative music scene, renowned for a musical fearlessness and a highly developed personal voice, Younger is a prolific and award nominated bandleader, composer, instrumentalist and recording artist. His modern jazz monster The Unsupervised was nominated for the 2011 Montreal International Jazz Festival's Grand Prix du Jazz and Galaxie Award for Composition, and the group tore up the festival's main stage on Canada Day. His most recent composition commission is from American choreographer Donald Sales, and follows up his work on the score for an epic full length work with Vancouver's Out Innerspace Dance Theatre. He was also handpicked by American composer John King to be the featured musical soloist for Ballet BC's production of Face to Face at The Queen Elizabeth Theatre, which played to absolutely rave reviews in November 2011.
