Event Description
Late show: Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers, Limbs of the Stars and Kidnap KidsOriginal rock operas, old style crooning and a killer brass section...these are the qualities that make Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers stand out amongst the crowd. Hailing from Winnipeg, Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers are a sextet of classically trained musicians that have crafted their own musical niche of operatic indie jazz. Complex song writing and “Winnipeg's strongest horn section” (The Manitoban) give Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers a stylistic diversity that appeals to indie popsters, big-band lovers and folksters alike.
In Spring 2011, Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers released their first full-length album: Hans My Lion. Recorded in their hometown, Hans my Lion is a rare combination of orchestral interludes, flamboyant pop songs and gritty gypsy punk. The album will be promoted with a cross-Canada tour in spring 2011, and festival appearances in the summer.
Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherer’s resume highlights include festival performances at the Komasket Music Festival (Vernon, BC), the Brandon Folk Festival, the Winnipeg Jazz Festival and a live performance on CBC’s Canada Live, released on air in summer 2010.
"[Flying Fox] takes hundreds of years of musical history from diverse
genres and presents it in a way that packs dance floors and makes any musician in the audience run back to their teacher in tears." (The Uniter)
