Event Description
Late show:Lemming Dynasty is a band well aware of their surroundings. Slick grooves sauced in social outrage beget haunting melodies, peppered with a sly irony reminiscent of times when leaving a little to the imagination was as classy as it is classic. Intrinsic to the Dynasty's sound is a strong sense of soulful
defiance; that unwavering purpose develops throughout the emerging
band's repertoire as the young ensemble is engulfed in the creative
thralls of self-discovery. One hears elements of grimy 70s funk, dirty
grunge, electro punk and proggy jazz; but always in the context of a
song, and always in the context of Lemming Dynasty. So in an era where
retro is getting old again and your creepy uncle's dusty track suit
graces the covers of sarcastic new wave magazine covers, Lemming
Dynasty isn't afraid to punctuate their craft with tight arrangements,
searing harmonies and riff-heavy bottom grooves.
With such a wide spectrum of influences you could say
that Johnny Don't plays anything and everything that is entertainment,
and with each song comes a new surprise and an irresistible hook that
commands your attention. With their high energy performance and
comedic banter Johnny Don't never leaves a crowd
disappointed.......maybe slightly offended, but never disappointed.
The story of The Get Down is still a young one, but is drenched in perseverance. After two independently produced albums, relentless gigging and critical acclaim they continue to push on. Having established a deep footprint on the Vancouver indy scene, they're being recognized as one of Vancouver's favorite acts. Ranging from skanky reggae music --to folky blues--to heavy metal--and even punk and country twang, audiences don't know what is coming next!
“When it comes to making music, the guys in The Get Down really
know how to cook.” -Damian Inwood, The Province
