Event Description
. Saturday, April 24th IMU presents OWL DRUGS, FORD PIER's VENEGENCE TRIO, WOMANKIND & YONCALIA DRAIN @ PUB 340, Cambie Street / Purchase advance tickets online @ http://www.imuproductions.comOWL DRUGS - Featuring alumni of Sparkmarker, Red Light Sting, DBS, The Doers, Closed Caption Radio and more, Owl Drugs is a rag-tag band of heretics who create challenging yet genuinely engaging rock music inspired by their extensive musical histories. They perform exhilarating, art-damaged songs that jag from the proggy twists of bands like Yes and King Crimson to epic Thin Lizzy-esque guitar hikes and the guttural tautness and tension of Chicago post-rock. Assuredly friends, Owl Drugs is proud to be a rock and roll band without pretense or distraction. http://www.myspace.com/owldrugs
FORD PIER - Known internationally for his many years' work collaborating in the studio and on tour with such diverse acts as D.O.A., Ron Sexsmith, Jr. Gone Wild, Neko Case, Tankhog and John Mann (Spirit Of The West), Ford Pier remains in the regular touring lineups of Veda Hille, Martin Tielli (Rheostatics), and Carolyn Mark. With deft lyricism and a melodicism he is powerless to escape, Ford has shown himself to be an engaging performer equally at home with the acoustic folk set or sharing a club stage with a hardcore band. His diverse influences span Wagner to punk rock and his vocals "soar into pitch-perfect falsettos and then cartwheel through anthems and allegories." [Vue Weekly] http://www.myspace.com/fordpier
WOMANKIND - Composed of a number of established Vancouver veterans, Womankind are a new band who are making big impressions. Their sound fits somewhere between the Jesus Lizard and Shellac: loud, noisy and clearly pissed off about something. The set-up of two basses, two guitars and drums makes for extra-heavy riffage and the vocals are delivered with an Albini-style scowl. http://www.myspace.com/womankind
YONCALIA DRAIN - Two-person rock music from the back of the classroom, Yoncalia Drain features members of Portico and Hinterland.
