Event Description

Victoria Conservatory of Music Faculty members Joanne Hounsell, Barbara Livingston and Robert Holliston will join special guests and students of the Voice and Collaborative Piano programs to present an afternoon of English song by such composers as Purcell, Handel, Vaughan Williams, Ives, and R. Murray Shafer.

Proceeds will support the Margaret Abbott Memorial Scholarship for English Art Song.

Margaret Abbott was a celebrated soprano whose performances of concert, oratorio, and operatic repertoire from all musical eras were acclaimed throughout Canada. Her family was closely connected to the Conservatory for many years; her children Norman, Vivienne, and Jocelyn were among the Conservatory's first students. To honour Margaret's memory and perpetuate her high artistic standards, a scholarship has been established for the performance of English Language Art Song.
