Event Description
“They're outstanding for their vitality, exuberance, elegance & melodic strength, and for the joy these three fine musicians share... Atkinson is a daring & inventive acoustic guitarist and a powerful force in the new roots/jazz movement." - Toronto Star reviewMarc Atkinson, has been recognized internationally for his catchy compositions and fiery but elegant guitar style, infused with an infectious blend of influences. Sizzling and supremely melodic, the Trio's musical terrain incorporates gypsy swing, jazz, flamenco rumba, Brazilian choro music, even Chopin and Broadway show tunes. The music of this award-winning, Juno-nominated group is melodically captivating, sensually charged and technically awe-inspiring. Yet, they still maintain the laidback humour and casual ‘good time feel’ of Canada’s West Coast. Marc is backed by Joey Smith on upright bass and their newest member, 20 year-old Victoria native Michael Hamilton on rhythm guitar.
Their most recent CD, Marc Atkinson Trio IV, is currently nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award in the Instrumental Album of the Year category. Formed in 2000, the trio has toured North America, England and Europe receiving standing ovations everywhere they perform from the Montreal Jazz Festival to the Vancouver International Folk Festival to DjangoFest Northwest.
