WHEN AND WHERE: The concert will take place at the Esquimalt Community Theatre on Friday May 7th, 2004. The show starts at 8:00 pm with doors opening at 7:30 pm. Under the leadership of Ian McDougall, the Monday Night Big Band has been performing weekly at Hermann’s Jazz Club since January 2001.
Formed by Mike Herriott and Bruce Hurn, the band provides the city with regularly scheduled big band performances. It also presents band members with the opportunity to explore the repertoire that is available for jazz orchestra currently as well as compose new music for the ensemble.
This 22-piece group has performed with such notable artists as Joe Coughlin, Chase Sanborn, Hugh Fraser, Kent Sangster, PJ Perry, and Rob McConnell. The MNBB has performed for the past two years as part of the Victoria International Jazz Festival.
The band will perform originals and arrangements of jazz standards written for Rob McConnell’s famed big band, "The Boss Brass" (of which Guido Basso and Ian McDougall were charter members). As well, the band will premiere a new work of Rob’s commissioned for this concert with the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
This concert is being recorded by the CBC.
