Event Description
. Saturday, July 21st IMU presents The DREADNOUGHTS, The WHISKEYJACKS + DRUNK & PRENTENDING @ The Bourban, 50 West Cordova . Doors 7pm / $10PLEASE NOTE VENUE CHANGE from BUFFALO CLUB to THE BOURBON. All presale tickets will be honored at The Bourbon.
The DREADNOUGHTS - Ball-busting Celt-punk from Vancouver's newest group of drunken misfits, with a shot of pirate-shanty, a shot of Irish melody and a triple-chaser of street punk. The result is a powerful live sound, with whirling fiddles, mandolins and accordions inviting you into a world of drink and debauchery. Imagine Rancid had their tour bus hijacked by a group of inebriated gypsies... and you're beginning to understand. Be sure to come out and catch these young up-and-comers who recently opened for The Real McKenzies!
The WHISKEYJACKS - Formed by Matthew Watts and Woodrow Forester whose shared influences include Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe, Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie, the duo was joined by Boxcar on banjo player and the three men's shared love of old-time, country, blues, ragtime, bluegrass and folk music quickly combined together and formed a high energy form of bluegrass and country with topical, socially aware lyrics reminiscent of the punk bands that they hailed from and listened to in the past. Before long the group was joined by Josh “Red” Doherty whose fiery style of harmonica is reminiscent of Jimmie Fadden and Sonny Terry and finally Alex Kelly joined the band on the Dog house bass and solidifed the group.
DRUNK and PRENTENDING are a five piece Rockin Beer Punk band from Kelowna, B.C. With music characterized by rhythmic lyrics, catchy hooks, fast tempos and recurring themes of alcohol affliction, the band captivates and are distinguished by their hyper-energetic stage shows, sarcastic humor, ironic covers and metallic shards of punk, alternative, rock and emo. With musical influences like Bad Religion and Alkaline Trio to Pearl Jam and the Smashing Pumpkins, their fast beat, melodic, harmonizing style makes them a rock force to be reckoned with in the Okanagan music scene.
