Event Description
. THIS SATURDAY! March 31st IMU presents The BUTTLESS CHAPS, NATHAN (Nettwerk Records), OCTOBERMAN & D TREVLON @ The MEDIA CLUB, 695 Cambie . 9pm / $10 - Get your advance tickets online at http://www.imuproductions.com/tixThe BUTTLESS CHAPS - Since their inception, the Chaps have played for audiences across the continent and have created five studio albums demonstrating increasing breadth and artistry every time. Their songwriting is done as a collaborative effort and the result is "fiercely original, often breathtaking stuff" [Georgia Straight]. The principle tenets of the band have been to have fun and to place absolutely no limits on their musical wanderings; the result is an imaginative and seamless journey from traditional country to new wave to punk, performed without irony or pretense. The honest enjoyment the Chaps get from playing their music is evident in their eclectic and vibrant live shows. The band projects an infectious energy, leading Michael Barclay (Exclaim) to write: "with their individual musical skill and combined charisma, one gets the impression that The Buttless Chaps could do just about anything." http://www.thebuttlesschaps.com
NATHAN - The prairies may be flat, but the lives on the prairies are full of hidden caves, impossibly high mountains and murky oceans. Winnipeg-based Nathan offer a blend of rootsy folk, sweet pop and itchily subversive lyrics with tight vocal harmonies and lyrics about the beautifully eccentric lives of the people surrounding them. Their CD "Jimson Weed" was released in Canada and the States on Nettwerk Records, receiving a Juno Award nomination, while their debut "Days Gone By" won a Prairie Music Award for Outstanding Independent Album, and earned them recognition as Prairie Region Choice for CBC's Big Break national talent competition and first place in Manitoba for the National Songwriting Competition. http://www.myspace.com/nathanband
OCTOBERMAN is a project of Kids These Days' Marc Morrissette, whose melancholic tales of escape are accented by mandolin, lightly strummed guitars, keyboards, drum loops, samples, saxophone, whistling, cello & even a glockenspiel! Having recently shared the Commodore stage alongside Hawksley Workman, Marc Morrissette (a.k.a. Octoberman) has been steadily been building a reputation as one of this countrys finest singer-songwriters! Having just packed his suitcase full of this his latest acoustic release and hit the road for the UK, one thing is certain Morrissettes unique voice will no longer be a Canadian best kept secret! http://www.myspace.com/octoberman
D. TREVLON is a drifter, songwriter, guitar-picker, whistler extraordinaire. With a haunting voice and whimsical whistle, D. Trevlon reveals the forgotten western tradition of the folk ballad. He reveals the secrets of our lives, the secrets hidden in the past. Some would call Trevlon a hopeless romantic; others might say he's a loner. It's best, though, to label him as a talent, and a reminder of the simple and important things in life; unabashed love, wide open spaces, a good stiff drink (or three), and the courage to live on the highway. He has also had the chance to open for such acts as Ron Sexsmith, Nelly Furtado, the Sadies, John Mann, the Rheostatics, Tegan and Sara, and many other great Canadian artists. http://www.myspace.com/dtrevlon
