Event Description
on sale fri, 1/26 @ 10amWith influences from Bay Area thrash metal and Swedish death metal acts, The Haunted’s 1998 self-titled debut staged an upheaval in the Swedish metal scene, and set a new standard for truly innovative thrash metal. The band has gone on to garner Swedish Grammy Awards for albums like 2000’s The Haunted Made Me Do It, while Kerrang! Magazine called the group “the single greatest exponents of balls-out metal in the world.” The Haunted’s 2004’s record rEVOLVEr saw the return of original vocalist Peter Dolving and was met with fan support and critical acclaim, while also earning the group a spot on 2005’s Ozzfest tour. The group’s latest, 2006’s The Dead Eye, shows a more sinister side to Dolving’s vocals, and a more technical, virtuosic musical display by band members.
The longest-standing band from the famous Gothenburg metal scene, Dark Tranquility has been setting the standard for Swedish melodic death metal since 1989. Blending layers of rapid guitar lines with harmony-rich electronic keyboards, precise rhythms and growled lyrics, the influential group has been nominated for numerous Swedish Grammys, has toured the world, and earned a loyal, devoted following. Dark Tranquility’s 2005 record, Character, is regarded as an outstanding slab of Swedish melodic death metal by masters of the genre. A new album from the sextet is expected in 2007.
