Victoria Mandolin Orchestra
The Victoria Mandolin Orchestra is well-loved by Senior Residences around Victoria. We play two series of concerts a year, one in December and one in April. Each summer we play at the Art and Music Festival in the Gardens, put on by Horticulture Centre of the Pacific. We have played at two outdoor Shakespeare festivals, at Government House, and Christ Church Cathedral events.
In July 2019, we look forward to hosting the spectacular Langendorf Mandolin Orchestra from Germany for the second time. Half of their 25 members are youth, and their concerts are remarkable events.
Victoria Mandolin Orchestra was founded in 1995 by the late Patrick Lawson. Kate Rhodes is our current conductor, a professional who plays violin with the Victoria Symphony and several other musical groups. Our repertoire includes baroque, classical, traditional, contemporary, movie themes and popular music. Instruments include mandolins, octave mandola, mandocellos, bass, guitar and percussion.
We welcome new members at the intermediate level who read music (treble and bass clef). We practice on Tuesday evenings, 7-9PM.
