About
DUBMATIX
Label: 7 Arts Entertainment
Thanks to the electronic dance music explosion of the last few years, it seems everybody is talking about dubstep. But do you know about dub? Real dub? Toronto’s Dubmatix is here to show you. For the past 10 years Dubmatix (AKA Jesse King) has built himself up to be one of the marquee acts in the Ontario reggae scene, joining acts such as Bedouin Soundclash, Exco Levi, Kardinal Offishal, and illScarlett in taking their sounds to audiences abroad. However, few of them have been as celebrated as King, considering he is a five-time Juno nominee, winning once in 2010. Dubmatix has developed a signature sound and style that is immediately recognizable. Just as much Phil Spector as Lee Perry, Dubmatix’s sound utilizes earth-shaking bass, majestic horn lines, and thick-set percussive grooves. This unique vibe has made him a sought-after producer, with hot reggae acts such as Easy Star All-Stars and John Brown’s Body courting his services for recent LPs. He’s also proven himself to be an exemplary radio host with his syndicated show the “Bassment Sessions”. Across six albums Dubmatix has collaborated with a list of vocalists that reads like a “who’s who” of reggae: Sugar Minott, Luciano, Tippa Irie, The Mighty Diamonds, and Anthony B. This is just a handful of talents who have lent their vocal cords to massive Dubmatix tunes. Bring your dancing shoes, because Dubmatix is mashin’ up the place at our Thursday night dub showcase.
