Andrea England

Born in England, I moved to New Zealand in 2004 and am now based in British Columbia with my Canadian husband and our 36' sailboat.

I am drawn to wild places. My watercolour paintings focus on a feeling of life and motion, with rippling white spaces providing a feeling of light, unity and breathing room. In 2017, my love of the outdoors, particularly the ocean, led me to leave my teaching job to sail across the Pacific Ocean. During the voyage, my passion for art was fuelled by my need to move beyond photography to interpret the spectacular wildlife and landscapes I was experiencing, and share the experiences of my journey in a more personal way. I frequently choose granulating mineral pigments for their depth and link to the earth, whilst the flowing, liquid nature of watercolour embodies my link to the sea.
