About
Brad Prevedoros Trio
The Brad Prevedoros trio performs a sparkling blend of Latin inspired instrumental music spiced with elements of Jazz, Celtic, Folk and Blues from around the world. Paul Wilkinson-Teel on bass and guitar and Niel Golden on percussion provide the rhythmic, harmonic backbone for the virtuoso guitar work of the group’s guitarist, composer and arranger Brad Prevedoros. Their music evokes a warm, lively and danceable feeling.Brad Prevedoros plays with the passion of candlelight. His guitar technique and understated execution conjure-up magic. He has transcended his electric guitar roots in Santana and Mark Knopfler, his studies with Ralph Towner and Oregon and Bill Douglas at Naropa Institute in Colorado, and earlier studies at the Victoria Conservatory and Capilano College in Vancouver. He is a musician in complete command of his instrument and musical conception. From Bach and Steve Reich to Paco De Lucia and The Gypsy Kings, Prevedoros has assimilated his influences into a singular sound. It’s a sound that has won fans from Galiano Island to Cabra, Spain, the B.C. Island’s twinned city. Prevedoros has collaborated on musical performances with poets Susan Musgrave, Dorothy Livesay, and Robert Bringhurst. He has toured with pianist Karel Roessingh.
In 2003 he was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award for Instrumental Album of the Year. In 2005 he won an ‘M’ Award in Victoria for Best Classical Performer. His recording of Firedance was included on Go West-A Vital Collection of Western Canadian Music. A favourite on the B.C. club and concert scene, Brad’s performances have drawn raves from audiences around the world.
Paul Wilkinson-Teel began his music training with formal lessons in trombone, piano, and percussion. At age fourteen he discovered the bass, and since then he
has played a variety of styles professionally and has toured Canada, the U.S.A, Mexico, and Japan. His recordings include two CDs with Brad Prevedoros, with whom Paul has been touring and performing with for 13 years.
Niel Golden is a talented percussionist specializing in the subtle yet powerful, tuned, paired, hand drums called tabla. Niel played guitar as a teen, hauling it along on an overland trek from Europe to India in 1972. Whetting his appetite for exotic music, he began his studies in world music and attended York University upon his return to Canada. While at York, he first studied mrdangam with Trichy Sankaran, and then tabla with Bob Becker of the world renowned percussion ensemble, Nexus. Niel received his honours B.A., specializing in ethnomusicology, and soon after became the disciple of the tabla master, Pandit Sharda Sahai, the fifth generation leader of the Benares style of playing.
