Her father Joao Gilberto is considered the most revered musician in Brazil and is credited with creating the bossa nova. Her mother, famous vocalist Miucha, has worked with such artists as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Elis Regina, and Frank Sinatra. Despite the impressive genealogy, Gilberto never had any intention of following in her parent’s footsteps. She moved to New York City and developed her own style working with artists as varied as David Byrne, Arto Lindsay, and Thievery Corporation.
