About
Brian Nova Trio
Label: Pony Boy Records
Having studied and toured with Joe Pass and Herb Ellis, Seattle guitar virtuoso Brian Nova has become an important voice in jazz. When he wasn?t performing or recording with colleagues Eddie Harris, Bobby Watson, and Jessica Williams, the smooth-toned Nova has become an exemplar of mainstream jazz guitar. In concert the mood can shift to Latin, blues or even a hint of country twang. This versatile performer also sings. He has preformed with the elite of the Jazz world - like saxophonists Eddie Harris, Danny Turner, Frank Foster, Bobby Watson, Stanely Turrentine, Bud Swank, Pete Christlieb, Med Flory, Hadley Calman, Bill Ramsey and Illinois Jaquet; trumpeters Harry Sweets Edison, Steve Madaio, Mike Vax & Fred Radke; pianists Gerald Wiggins, Kenny Drew, Jessica Williams, Joe Fos, Benny Green, Larry Fuller, Primo Kim; bassists Red Mitchell, Andy Simpkins, Marshall Hawkins, Leroy Vinnegar, Mads Vinding, Buddy Catlett, John Heard; drummers Jeff Hamilton, Mel Brown, Eddie Henderson, Dick Berk, Butch Miles, Bobby Durham, Paul Krybeck; guitarists Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Charlie Byrd, Larry Coryell, Mundell Lowe, Steve Miller, John Pisano, John Stowell, Henry Johnson and Taj Mahal; trombonists Julian Priester and Fred Wesley; vibraphonists Louis Hjulmand, Kyoko Ami and Ricky Kelly; singers Diane Schuur, Freddie Cole, Ernestine Anderson, Dee Daniels, and Mark Murphy; harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite. The list of great musicians that have appeared with him over the years is virtually endless.
His long-time trio includes bassist Buddy Catlett, a 50-year veteran who has played with Ray Charles, Count Basie, Johnny Griffin and Louis Armstrong.
Holding down the drum kit is Greg Williamson, whose former bosses included Woody Herman, Glenn Miller and Harry James. Please welcome back this JazzFest favourite! The Brian Nova Trio will host an open jam session for the last set of each nightly gig at the Heritage Lounge.
