Gordie Sampson
Gordie Sampson may be best known for what he has done for other people – co-written hit songs, produced award-winning albums, backed top Canadian touring and recording artists - but Gordie Sampson is a musical dynamo in his own right. As a co-writer, guitarist and singer, Sampson played a key role in the Canadian Top 20 success of pop/rock band Realworld in the early 1990s. By the mid-‘90s, Gordie shifted his attention to the more traditional music of his native Cape Breton Island and soon found himself working with the top traditional acts of the day. He continued to expand his horizons by working as musical director for stage and television productions and honing his skills in the studio. In 1998, Sampson’s debut album, Stones, was released to rave reviews, earning the then 27 year-old a Juno nomination and half a dozen East Coast Music and Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia Awards. During the next couple of years, Gordie maintained an unsteady musical balance of writing, performing and producing.
