About
Rah Rah
Label: Young Soul Records/EMI
since circa 2006
Rah Rah loves to build songs and stories. They make music in Queen City basements and have been known to consume excessive amounts of sugar. In the Fall of 2009 Rah Rah finished their second cross-Canada tour in support of Going Steady, their first full-length album. The album was released in 2008 on Young Soul Records and won the band Best New Alternative and Canadiana act on the Itunes 2009 Review. The album has also received generous support from Canadian college and CBC radio in addition to charting in Exclaim! Magazine. Rah Rah has also been lucky enough to play numerous shows at the Regina Folk Festival, Pop Montreal, and NXNE.
The six piece features members of Sylvie, Geronimo, and the late Despistado. The six members share a collective mentality, taking turns taking the lead, both in songwriting and while on stage, and constantly switching instruments. The proud prairie rockers sing of the seriousness of art, poetry, love and politics, and contrast it with absurd imagery and a stage full of confetti, bubbles, candy, and six friends loving life and having fun. This along with the melodic male/female vocals and diverse instrumentation (guitars, bass, drums, keys, violin, accordion, ukulele), ensures that a Rah Rah show will not disappoint.
This past summer, while in Montreal they took two weeks off to record a follow-up to "Going Steady" with Kees Dekker (Plants and Animals). The record is currently in the works and is expected to be released in Spring/Summer 2010.
In the Fall of 2009 the band also had the pleasure of being the iTunes free download of the week twice and the iTunes free download card in Starbucks across Canada.
Rah Rah has shared the stage with: Wintersleep, Malajube, DD/MM/YYYY, Hot Springs, Elliott Brood, Holy Fuck!, Bedouin Soundclash, Mother Mother, Said the Whale, Rural Alberta Advantage, The Lovely Feathers, Sunparlour Players, Bruce Peninsula, Cuff the Duke, Zeus, and Library Voices.
